Guiding you towards a fulfilling life
Flourishing is the state where a person has the ability to live a life that is authentic to the person, and rooted in their own considered understanding of what it means to live well. The state of Flourishing emerges when a person is able to form an appreciation for their own particular life, despite the stressors, successes, failures, triumphs and losses it encounters.
The Foundation for Holistic Flourishing aims to bring the knowledge of what it takes to flourish in life to varied constituencies of people. In doing so, it looks at the advances made in the social sciences, neuroscience and other sciences, philosophical positions on human flourishing through time and the spiritual sciences.
Each human life contains immense potential. Societal structures, reigning ideologies, self-limiting beliefs, circumstances and nature can and do chip away at the psyche, leading to a loss of understanding about ourselves and those around us. This can often lead to emotional distress.
To understand how we can flourish, we must examine each of the constraints placed upon us and develop greater self-knowledge. Modern science and ancient wisdom hold clues to the conditions which can create a mindset that can cope with the multiple challenges life brings. For those seeking to create better lives and communities, this knowledge is vital.
The epidemic taught us that extreme life stressors can result in a deterioration in mental health. However, Resilience Science and Existential/Positive Psychology have long shown that it is possible to prepare for emotional distress.
The Science of Flourishing also has laid down multiple factors that aid in creating better mental health. Given the long and difficult trajectory that many go through when they look at their distress through the bio-medical model, we work on making these ideas available to people in the form of talks, workshops, conferences and short courses.
Finding our larger, transcendent purpose in life helps create meaning. The Foundation actively creates spaces for secular conversations, open to all, on different schools of spiritual thinking and practices.
Homeopathy, Tibetan Medicine, Ayurveda, Medical Astrology, Varmam, Unani – all of these healing traditions have a strong connection with India. However, what we lack is an easy way to access them reliably, especially when faced with emotional distress. The Foundation is committed to make the traditional healing modalities accessible.
Many faith traditions, as well as the science of Flourishing, speak of the importance of cultivating a supportive 'tribe' of people.
